Alipay formed a partnership with ATEC Australia to expand its mobile payment platform to Australia's tourism industry recently.
ZATEC said at a news conference that the cooperation was mainly aimed at educating the Australian tourism industry's stores and employees on how to utilize 520 million Chinese active users of Alipay and to improve their skills on the 23rd.
Data showed that there were nearly 120 Chinese tourists visited Australia for the year ended June 30, 2017, up more than 20% over the same period of the previous year and infused a $ 9.8 billion worth of living water into the Australian economy. Meanwhile, the Australian Tourism Administration forecasts that by the year 2026, more than 3.3 million Chinese tourists will arrive in Australia each year.
In this regard, general manager of ATEC, Peter Shelley, said: "China has become the largest passenger market in Australia and China's purchasing power is expected to reach 13 billion yuan by 2020. We are well aware of future opportunities."
According to ATEC, the number of merchants has risen from 1,000 to 8,000 in the past few months offering Alipay payment in Australia.
In fact, Alipay hand ATEC is not its first appearance in the Australian market. Alipay has previously reached an agreement with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) to pay for infrastructure facilities through the digitalization of the Commonwealth Bank, enabling Australian consumers to pay on Alibaba e-commerce sites such as AliExpress. At the same time, this also provides the Federal Bank with the opportunity to contact Chinese tourists and students in Australia and China.
