According to foreign media MacRumors reports, US retail giant “Target” launched its own payment platform on Dec. 5th, which allows customers pay by Target app on iOS and Android devices. This mobile payment development makes rapid growing demand for barcode scanner module which can read phone screen 1D/2D barcodes.
The Target app's wallet feature allows customers to pay with their REDcard and enjoy all discounts and offers with a mobile scan at checkout. To use this feature, Target customer needs to add a REDcard to the Target app. REDcard is Target's own-brand credit card, which offers customers discounts on purchases. At checkout, Target customers need to open the Target app, click on the wallet, scan the coupon barcode, and scan the wallet's barcode to make the purchase.
Target's payment service is a barcode-based system similar to Wal-Mart's WalMart Pay, which uses a QR code. However, Wal-Mart's payment system supports most of the major credit cards, debit cards, and Wal-Mart gift cards, while Target's wallets only support REDcard.
Target said that at checkout, its new wallet payment speed is four times faster than other payment types. Target's chief information and digital officer, Mike McNamara, said: "In the Target app, wallets make checkout more convenient and faster than ever before."
